Weak Trope: Having a character’s driving motivation be REVENGE up until the last second when they pull the “revenge won’t bring my wife/sister/town/three-eared dog back” and leave the bastard they’ve been hunting down alive.
Strong Trope: Hello! My Name! Is Inigo Montoya! You Killed My Father! Prepare! TO! DIE! *corners count rugen* Beg for your life *slashes cheek* Offer me anything I want in the world! *slashes other cheek* I WANT MY FATHER BACK, YOU SON OF A BITCH. *stabs count rugen to death*
me: this site reads too deep into films it’s really not that deep
also me: the realtionship between Venom and Riot is fascinating because it directly implies the existence of hierarchies within symbiote culture, meaning there must be a pecking order, but what it’s based on we don’t know yet. We can only assume it’s similar from the comics where the Venom symbiote is an outcast for wanting a a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with its host, whereas mainstream symbiote culture favours host hopping and destructive tendencies towards any host. This is supported by the fact that the Venom symbiote refers to it and Eddie as ‘we’ and ‘us’ almost instantly whereas the Riot symbiote only uses ‘I’ except for the instance when it needs to placate Carlton Drake to co-operate with its plan. Furthermore, movie Venom reveals to Eddie that he is a loser on his planet, meaning symbiotes have a concept of what’s ‘cool’ and what’s not, leading us to deduce that societal and peer pressure are incredibly prevalent within symbiote culture. In the essay I will-
Speaking of Hamilton, it’s super fucked up the reputation it gets because of some of its more immature fans. Like, yeah, okay, there are people out there that are treating the founding fathers like “uwu cinnamon roll characters” instead of the actual real life people they were but that’s….not the show’s fault? The show does a better job of showing them as flawed human beings than MOST historical media, which tend to glorify them and completely ignore all flaws and shortcomings.
But more than that, it’s fucked up that the show is starting to get a bad reputation or be regarded as “cringey”. This is a show that shattered records and set milestones in theatre, and it is a show that is like 99% non-white. It’s a show that was written BY a man of colour specifically to CREATE more roles for performers of colour in an industry where he always felt there was little to no room for them. Can we not discredit that or its importance just because some teens on tumblr don’t know how to be normal about a musical they like?
So I was relistening to Taz and I got to the part where they find Lup’s body and the umbra-staff, and like, Taako wanted to take her robe. The only reason he didn’t was because Griffin made it turn to dust… Can you just imagine… How much that would fuck up Barry and Lucretia? Seeing Taako wearing their uniform, his sister’s robe, looking so like how he was before but so different. Not knowing what it meant, or who it belonged to. Can you just fucking imagine how he’d feel when he got his memories back, looking down at the robe he’d been wearing all this time and finally realizing what it meant
Lucretia: The Red Robes are a secret organization that vanished long ago, and you are never to interact with them.
Taako: Hold the presses, I’m wearing a red robe! Am I a Red Robe? Hmmmmmmm?
Lucretia: N.. No. There is no way that you are a Red Robe.
Taako, 100% jokingly: Hey Guys! Look at me! I’m a Red Robe! I make weapons of mass destruction!
Lucretia, trying not to lose composure: Nobody here is a Red Robe!
Taako, pointing his Umbrastaff at Magnus, Merle, and Davenport, still joking: D'ya hear that? You’re all Red Robes!!
“To the capitalist, every luxury of the worker seems to be reprehensible, and everything that goes beyond the most abstract need – be it in the realm of passive enjoyment, or a manifestation of activity – seems to him a luxury.”
movies about apocalypses: it’s every man for himself!! you can’t trust anyone, it’s a wasteland of solo travelers and sad families, we’re alone out here
humans irl: *pack bond with strangers*
*pack bond with large carnivores*
*pack bond with robots in space thousands of miles away*
Apocalypse preppers who fantasise about all our artificial rules and governments falling away in times of chaos seem to forget that we invented those rules and governments. Over and over. When you put humans near each other, they group up and make a society; that’s why those governments exist. Do they think we magically stop doing that in dangerous situations? Because… we don’t.
hopepunk doesn’t have time for your racist doomsday hard-on, carl.
